Getting Poetic... How to ask for honeymoon cash

Most people nowadays live together (in sin... shock horror) before getting married. And if they don't, chances are they've lived by themselves, either in a house, or student digs or whatever.

So basically the tradition of passing around a notepad to your guests and having them rip out a page that says "toaster" or "mugs" is long gone. I can't say I actually did this for my wedding, as John Lewis' Wedding Gift List did the job for us, and we simply spent 2 afternoons (most of the stuff we picked on the first one went out in the clearance) happily admiring the precious goodies which now adorn our shelves... anyways, I digress.

So when you have it all, what do you ask for? Nobody needs 2 kettles. I actually don't even have one.

Honeymoon money. Yes Chef.

Nowadays it's very popular to ask for vouchers towards your honeymoon. These can be used for flight and room upgrades, specific tours, drinks or meals, the list is endless.

So how to ask? We did a bit of research and found the following poems for asking for honeymoon donations:

We've lived together quite a while with all our pots and pans,

and as we don't need homely gifts we've got another plan!

We know it's not traditional but an awful lot more fun,

to have a special wedding list to help us catch some sun!

So if you'd like to give a gift and send us on our way

a donation to our honeymoon would really make our day!!

Then while we're relaxing on the beach, or by the pool so blue

we'll sit back and know that it is truly thanks to you!

We know it's not traditional it's not the way it's done

But instead of a wedding list we'd like a bit of sun.

Please do not think of us as rude please do not take offence

We do not want to upset you, that's not the way it's meant.

We've lived together quite a while and all the bills are paid

We've got our plates, our pots and pans, our plans have all been made.

So if you'd like to give a gift to help us celebrate

Some money for a honeymoon we would appreciate

We haven't got a wedding list, the reason we'll explain

It's to save you all the hassle as shopping is a pain

We thought we'd ask you all for something else instead

A little contribution for a honeymoon in the Med

So if you'd like to contribute towards our honeymoon

We offer you our heartfelt thanks

With love, the Bride and Groom

We are sending out this invitation

In hope you will join a celebration

But if a gift is your intention

May we take this opportunity to mention

We have already got a kettle and two toasters

crockery, dinner mats, and matching coasters

so rather than something we have already got

We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot

But most importantly we request

That you come to our wedding as our guest

Now we’ve made it official, that we are finally tying the knot,

having you there to share our day, would really mean a lot.

We’ve organised the venue, the photographer and cake,

and when it’s done and dusted, we’ll really need a break.

If you would like to lend a hand, to help us on our way,

a token in our wishing well, would really make our day.

Then while we're relaxing on the beach, or by the pool so blue

we'll sit back and know that it is truly thanks to you!

Or you could even try writing your own! Get poetic!
